• To gain an insight into the gendered impacts of the refugee crisis in Europe.
• To develop gender-sensitive prevention services.
• To improve existing services.
• To motivate male migrants and refugees to become allies in gender equality through role-model approaches.
• To improve the understanding of EU regulations to reduce conflicts in knowledge related to gender-based violence.
• To improve the health and well-being of victims by promoting emotional regulation in men* and helping them build social relations.
• To prevent violence.
• To highlight to the public, as well as local/national authorities, the need for a gender-sensitive approach to violence prevention.
• To improve the cross-over between migration/intercultural education, gender/masculinity, and violence prevention.

FOMEN’s intervention / education program aims to work with male migrants and refugees in form of dialogue-oriented seminars, to encourage but also challenge their reflection on the topics of gender roles, self-care, social relations, violence prevention and caring masculinities. These workshops will be held in several languages with interpreters and conducted through culturally sensitive methods.

FOMEN is offering Capacity-Building Programmes for professionals who are working in the field of migration, gender-based-violence prevention and gender & masculinities. These workshops aim to improve skills, competences and knowledge of professionals based on gender sensitive and violence-preventive work with male migrants and refugees.

FOMEN is working towards the following expected project results:

• Improve health and well-being through awareness raise on gender equality, women’s, and children’s rights as well as techniques on handling emotions and building social relations
• Learning through shared experiences
• Strengthening the process of social inclusion and cohesion in the EU
• Create awareness for gender sensibility and alternatives to violence amongst marginalised groups and implement effective participatory programs for male migrants and refugees through dialogue, active exchange, open discussion, and ownership.
• Exchange best practice approaches in gender sensitive preventive work with men
• Create spaces for critical reflection on traditional gender roles and masculinities.
• Provide authorities who are involved in FOMEN with deeper knowledge, recent data, new approaches and methods of intervention and a wider range of field related networks.
• Contribute to an academic understanding of gender-sensitive approaches in working with men with international history through an intersectional lens.
